3 – 7 November | Bangkok, Thailand

CALD’s final project for 2016 was its 11th General Assembly that it organized in cooperation with the Democrat Party (DP) of Thailand, and with FNF support. With the theme “Liberalism vs Illiberalism: Which Side Does Asia Belong?” the event aimed to serve as a forum where the most pertinent issues and problems about the future of liberalism in the 21st century, particularly in Asia, could be raised and discussed. Another aim was to come up with a list of proposals on how liberal political parties can address these issues and problems, particularly those relating to the rise and persistence of populism and illiberalism. A Climate Change Public Forum, Party Network Workshop, Youth Forum on Climate Change, and CALD Executive Committee Meeting took place on the event’s sidelines.
