9 – 15 April 2016 | Manila and Iloilo, Philippines

This mission was aimed in part to provide participants with a general understanding and appreciation of the Philippine democratic system, electoral framework and political party dynamics. Organized by CALD in co-operation with the Liberal Party of the Philippines (LP) and with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), the mission took place a month before the Philippines’ 9 May general elections, which was touted to be the “most hotly contested” polls since the restoration of democracy in that country in 1986, with “reform politics” battling it out against “traditional politics”.
