My name is Sam Rainsy. I am an elected member of parliament of Cambodia and the leader of my country's second-largest political party.
The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) would like to extend its deepest gratitude for your gracious acceptance of our invitation to deliver the keynote address at the recently concluded CALD Bali Conference 2011: Pluralism and Development in Asia: Issues and Prospects held on 4-7 November 2011 at the Ayodya Resort Bali. We also share the gratitude of all the delegates for the memorable dinner and cultural show you hosted in the garden of your Jaya Sabha residence.
We are writing to focus your attention to the ongoing and growing concerns about migrant workers in the ASEAN region, and to encourage you to include this issue as part of the ASEAN agenda now that Indonesia serves as chair of the regional body.
The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD), in line with its commitment to gender equality and non-discrimination, holds regular workshops and seminars on women's role in society.
We are fully aware of the fact that previously in your career, you were instrumental in the establishment of CALD and had been actively involved with it. We have accordingly submitted, as attached hereto, a copy of the CALD Annual Report 2010 for your kind information.
We note with joy the increasing opportunities for more open and freer political engagement in your country, and salute your enduring example and life of sacrifice and determination. While these so-called windows of political change are still far from the ideal, we are immensely heartened by developments that point to new trajectories of democratization for Burma.
