CALD Extends Solidarity and Sympathy to Victims of Typhoons Ragasa and Bualoi

The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) expresses its deepest sympathy and solidarity with the people of the Philippines and Taiwan, who have been severely affected by the recent back-to-back typhoons, Ragasa and Bualoi.
Super Typhoon Ragasa, one of the most powerful storms to hit the region in recent years, has claimed at least 25 lives in the northern Philippines and Taiwan, according to media reports. In Taiwan’s Hualien County, at least 14 people lost their lives and 31 remain missing after the collapse of a natural dam. The dam’s collapse released an estimated 68 million tons of water, causing devastating floods in Guangfu Township. Nearly 300 residents have since been evacuated from the area.
In the Philippines, more than 433,000 individuals were evacuated from flood and landslide-prone areas, including communities near the active Mayon Volcano in Albay Province.
Shortly after, Tropical Storm Bualoi swept across central Philippines and southern Luzon on 26 September, resulting in at least 10 reported deaths. Disaster officials also confirmed that 13 individuals, mostly fishermen, remain missing after venturing out to sea prior to the storm’s arrival.
CALD offers its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expresses hope for the swift recovery of the affected communities. It urges both national and local governments to prioritize the urgent needs of displaced families and to ensure that recovery and relief efforts are delivered efficiently and equitably.
