CALD resolution reaffirming its support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s call for meaningful and inclusive political dialogue; recognizing the National League of Democracy as the legitimate voice of Burma’s democratic opposition; and recommending the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Reaffirming its support for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s call for a meaningful political dialogue among all stakeholders to facilitate genuine democratic transition and national reconciliation in Burma;

Recognizing the National League of Democracy as the legitimate voice of democratic opposition in Burma, and that its dissolution last year in the run-up for general elections is not reflective of any substantive democratic progress in the country;

Asserting, in the context of the recommendation of Mr Ojea Quintanta, UN Representative of Burma/Myanmar to establish a UN Commission of Inquiry, the need for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to ensure recompense and healing while promoting an inclusive political settlement;

Reiterating its appeal to the military government to establish lines of communication with representatives of all political opposition and ethnic groups so that a consensus can be reached on how to create a more secure and progressive future for the people of Burma.
