(Manila, Philippines/ January 23, 2003) The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) launched today the book “September 11 and Political Freedom: Asian Perspectives” at Powerbooks, Arnaiz St. (formerly Pasay Road), Makati City, Philippines.

Special guests for the launch were H.E. Vice President Teofisto Guingona, CALD Chair M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra MP, and the editors, Mr. Uwe Johannen and Mr. James Gomez.

The book is the first of its kind in Asia and focuses on political developments in the region following 9/11. Drawn from a CALD conference on globalisation held in Manila, it presented a review of the impact of 9/11 on the development of democracy and freedom in Asia. Collectively, the eleven essays in it reflect the “after-shocks” felt after the attack.
