(June 28, 2005/ Pagsanjan, Philippines) The Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD) and the Young Liberals & Democrats for Asia (YLDA) participated in the Liberal Party’s Mid-Year Assessment and Planning Workshop, which opened today at the Mt. Makiling Highlands in the resort town of Calamba, Laguna, Philippines. The two organizations made their respective presentations and answered questions during the session devoted to international affairs.The participants of the workshop consist of members of the LP headquarters as well as key personnel of the party’s leadership, in particular, from the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The Liberal Party will play a crucial role in CALD especially by January of next year when LP becomes the CALD chair party until the end of 2007. There has also been a decision to hold the 3rd meeting of CALD and the Alliance for Liberals and Democrats for Europe in Manila next year. After the first day’s session, CALD Executive Director John Coronel hosted the CALD secretariat’s private farewell dinner for Ms. Andrea Yang, CALD Program Officer, at the Gallery Caf� at the nearby heritage town of Pagsanjan, Laguna. Ms. Yang, who was CALD Program Officer since July 1, 2004, will return to her native Taiwan to be part of the staff of Democratic Progressive Party’s Department of International Affairs in Taipei. Attending the dinner were Ms. Yang’s colleagues, Mr. Brian Gonzales and Mr. Paolo Zamora, as well as YLDA Program Officer Anne Elica�o. Another guest was Mr. Celito Arlegue of the Department of Political Science of the University of the Philippines in Los Ba�os, Laguna. Mr. Arlegue was formerly CALD Program Officer. |
