(October 13, 2005/ Taipei, Taiwan) The Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD) holds today its Executive Committee (Execom) Meeting at the Asiaworld Holiday Inn in Taipei, Taiwan. This is the 3rd Executive Committee for 2005 and the second since the latest Execom Meeting last June 17 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Among the items covered in the agenda were the evaluation of the CALD Executive Visit to Bangkok and the 3rd CALD Communications Workshop in Kuala Lumpur; the upcoming projects—namely, the CALD Mission to the Taiwanese Local Elections (December, 2005), the Overseas Development Assistance and Public Accountability Conference (Siem Reap, Cambodia/ April, 2006) and the CALD-Alliance of Liberals & Democrats for Europe Meeting (Manila/ June, 2006).
Various resolutions were passed as follows:CALD Resolution No. 5 regarding CALD’s commitment to the Win with Women Global Action Plan and the creation of a CALD women’s wing; CALD Resolution No. 6 expressing concern over the continued harassment of Singapore’s democracy activists; CALD Resolution No. 7 expressing concern over the political crisis in the Philippines; and, CALD Resolution No. 8 congratulating the Democratic Progressive Party for its outstanding performance as CALD Chair Party.
In view of the fact that this would be the last Execom meeting presided by Ms. Bi-Khim Hsiao, MP (outgoing CALD Secretary General), the incoming CALD Secretary General Dr. Neric Acosta, MP, and CALD Executive Director Mr. John Coronel presented gifts to Ms. Hsiao as tokens of appreciations.
