CALD Secretariat Returns to Leyte for Post-Haiyan Advocacy Activities
June 25 2014It has already been half a year since Typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) stormed its way into the Philippines and caused destruction and devastation beyond compare. Countless relief, reconstruction and rebuilding efforts have been initiated by local, regional, national and international groups to meet the needs of the affected communities and the persisting demands of post-typhoon disaster management. However, despite the visible developments, much is still needed and the recovery process still counts on the unceasing support of groups from both the public and private sector.

UN Body Elects CALD Chair as President

CALD Chairperson Oyun Sanjaasuren was elected as first President of United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) on 23 January 2014.  Mrs. Oyun, who also serves as Mongolian Minister for Environment and Green Development, was chosen by more than 1200 participants from all 193 countries that met in Nairobi, Kenya for the UN body’s inaugural session.

Opposition Leader Aung San Suu Kyi Turns 69
June 22 2014A birthday ceremony was held for National League for Democracy (NLD) leader Aung San Suu Kyi in honour of her turning 69 on June 19.
The ceremony was held at the NLD party headquarters in Yangon and although she could not attend she sent a message to her supporters to mark the occasion.
