NLD: Over 3 Million People Join Petition to Amend Charter
July 2 2014Burma’s biggest opposition party announced on Monday that more than 3.3 million people have signed a campaign to change a constitutional article that gives the military a veto over amendments.

2.6 Million Sign Petition for 436 Amendment: NLD

Some 2.6 million people from Rangoon, Mandalay and Magwe divisions have thrown their support behind a petition by the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD) party calling for amendments to constitutional Article 436.

NLD Schedules First Youth Congress in Early July
June 26 2014

After several delays, the National League for Democracy (NLD) said it has finally set a firm date for its first nationwide youth congress, which will be held on July 5-6.
Burma’s biggest opposition party twice announced it would hold the conference, once in January and then in April, but then postponed the event, most recently because the NLD started its nationwide campaign calling for amendments to the Constitution’s Article 436.

Hong Kong Democracy ‘Referendum” Draws Nearly 800,000

A total of 792,808 voters took part in an unofficial referendum on universal suffrage in Hong Kong, organisers said.
The 10-day poll was held by protest group Occupy Central.
Campaigners want the public to be able to elect Hong Kong’s leader, the chief executive. The Hong Kong government says the vote has no legal standing.

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri urged Lampung residents to help candidate pair Joko “Jokowi” Widodo-Jusuf Kalla win the 9 July presidential election, in a campaign rally at Lapangan Merah (Red Circle), Enggal, Bandar Lampung, on Tuesday.
“I want Jokowi-Kalla to win in one round. That’s why I invite all volunteers and people who want a change for a better Indonesia to vote for these presidential and vice presidential candidates,” she said in the rally.

TAIWAN

More Taiwan-Japan Security, Military Exchanges Urged
July 2 2014Lawmakers from Taiwan and Japan called for more security and military exchanges between their two countries to confront challenges in the region, at an international conference in Taipei on Tuesday.
Taiwanese lawmaker Hsiao Bi-khim of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party said she hoped that in the face of the rise of China, Japan would increase military exchanges with Taiwan, including transferring military technology and sharing Japan’s experience in using an all-volunteer military.
