The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) looks forward to welcoming its members, partners and friends to the upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations in Manila, Philippines on 8-11 November 2013. Since its formation in 1993 in Bangkok, Thailand, CALD has become with a unique platform for dialogue and cooperation between liberal and democratic parties in Asia. The anniversary celebrations, therefore, hope to highlight this distinctive role and at the same time, set CALD’s future directions. The members of the secretariat are currently in full swing in organizing the anniversary events, which are drawing closer with only a month left to prepare. With every person assigned hir/her own job to ensure that the final product goes as planned, the office releases an aroma of determination with every one fixated in getting his/her job(s) done to the required deadlines. Additionally to putting together the CALD 20th Anniversary Conference, the secretariat members are also working on the 6th CALD-ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) Meeting, a CALD Youth Seminar and the CALD Executive Committee Meeting which will all take place two days prior to the anniversary conference. The three-day event hopes to bring together government and political party officials, parliamentarians, members of international organizations, academics, civil society organizations from the regions of Asia, Europe and beyond to discuss how global, regional and national developments impact on inter-regional cooperation, the state of freedom and political party reform. CALD looks forward to hosting all these upcoming events and welcoming liberals and democrats from all over the world in Manila! |
