CALD Programme Officer attends Globalization Seminar in Germany

(December 18, 2005/Gummersbach, Germany) Mr. Brian V. Gonzales, Programme Officer of the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD), finishes today the International Academy for Leadership seminar on “Globalization and Regionalism: Liberal Stocktaking of Chances and Risks”.  

The seminar was attended by young leaders in politics, government, the academe, media and civil society from 22 different countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. Held at the Theodor Heuss Academy in Gummersbach, Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s (FNF) oldest center for liberal dialogue at an international level, the seminar was facilitated by Dr. Walter Hartmann of Germany, Ms. Luz Larissa Arce of Peru and Mr. Emmanuel Martin of France.

The two-week seminar covered 1) the definition of main political, economic and cultural aspects of globalization and their interdependence; 2) the difference between regionalism and globalization under a historic, political and economic perspective; 3) the conflicting and complementary aspects of regionalism and globalization and their inherent economic chances; 4) the identification and assessment of leading regional structures worldwide; 5) the consequences of globalization for national development schemes and for the bilateral and multilateral development cooperation; and 6) the exemplary liberal agenda setting for selected countries in order to maximize their performance and benefit facing the globalization process.

This seminar tackled on one of the topics in a series of programs that FNF offers. Mr. Gonzales is the third member of the CALD secretariat who had attended the globalization seminar in Gummersbach after Mr.John Coronel and Mr. Paolo Zamora, CALD Executive Director and Program Officer, respectively.
