CALD Resolution No. 2 S. 2012

“The reform and transformation of the DPP will not cease. We will continue to stand by the people, especially those that are disadvantaged in our society… We must have faith in the values that we represent, and we must believe in our responsibility to protect Taiwan.”

CALD Resolution commending Ms. Ing-wen Tsai’s inspiring, constructive, and dignified role as chair of the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan (DPP), recognizing her outstanding efforts in strengthening the party in the past four years, and acknowledging her contributions in promoting liberal values and democracy within and outside Taiwan

Recognizing her inspiring and dignified effort in leading DPP in its campaign for good governance, judicial reform, increased civic participation, environmental development and protection, as well as peace and stability in a mutually beneficial cross-strait framework, among others, during the January 14, 2012 elections;

Aware that her excellent service contributed notably to the outstanding electoral performance of the party and to the growth and advancement of liberal politics in Taiwan;

Convinced that Ms. Tsai’s vision and dedication to the party have laid a valuable foundation for the party’s future;

Aware that Ms. Tsai finished her term as chair of the DPP and that Ms. Chen Chu, Mayor of Kaohsiung, will serve as acting chair to help sustain and further strengthen the party’s public support;

Commending Ms. Tsai’s outstanding leadership and dedicated service as chair of the DPP for the past four years and her steadfast commitment to the principles and ideals of freedom, participatory democracy, human rights, rule of law and market economy;

Acknowledging Ms. Tsai’s efforts in reinforcing ties with the international community and with organizations such as CALD and acknowledging DPP as

one of CALD’s active members committed to the ideals of liberalism and democracy;
