CALD Resolution No. 5 S. 2005
CALD Resolution expressing its commitment to the Win with Women Global Action Plan and to the implementation of the plan’s four-point agenda; enjoining its member parties without a women’s wing to establish one; and committing itself to the creation of a CALD’s women’s wing in order to pursue the objectives of the said action plan and to further promote women’s participation and empowerment.
Noting that the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats today in a General Assembly focusing on the theme “Advancing Women in Politics: The Role of Political Parties”;
Citing that the CALD General Assembly is immediately preceded by the Liberal International Women’s Workshop whose participants come from CALD members and observers;
Aware that the basis of Liberal International’s women workshop is the Win with Women Global Action Plan ;
Believing that political parties must provide the avenues for greater women participation in politics and that political parties must be pro-active in ensuring women participation and in promoting gender equality
Mentioning that CALD and its member parties are supporting the four key recommendations of the said program, namely: (1) removing restrictions on women’s political participation, (2) increasing the number of women elected and appointed officials, (3) ensuring meaningful leadership positions in political parties and in meaningful numbers, and (4) advocating greater participation of women in government decision-making and in legislation.
Convinced that CALD, as an organization of liberal and democratic political parties in Asia, must be in the forefront of women empowerment, especially in the field of politics;
The Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats hereby express its commitment to the Win with Women Global Action Plan and to the implementation of the plan’s four- point agenda; enjoin its member parties without a women’s wing to establish one; and commit itself to the creation of a CALD’s women’s wing in order to pursue the objectives of the said action plan and to further promote women’s participation and empowerment.
