CALD Resolution No. 7 S. 2004

CALD Resolution congratulating Apirak Kosayodhin for his victory as Bangkok Governor and noting the victory of the Democrat Party of Thailand as a triumph of liberal and democratic principles

Aware that the Bangkok Gubernatorial Elections was held August 29, 2004 with Democrat Party candidate Apirak Kosayodhin besting 20 other candidates for the post;

Confident that Mr. Apirak, with the support of the Democrat Party and the people of Bangkok, will be able to fulfill his promise of promoting cooperation between communities, the private sector and government; of improving the environmental conditions of the modern metropolis and the quality of life of its citizens; and of advocating transparency and efficiency in all of Bangkok’s 50 districts;

Believing that given his track record as a successful entrepreneur and the Democrat Party’s history of competent management and commitment to democratic ideals, the people of Bangkok will be the primary beneficiaries of the new administration;

Noting that political analysts have observed that the legitimacy given to Mr. Apirak and the opposition Democrat Party reflects the people of Bangkok’s censure of the ruling Thai Rak Thai party’s iron-fisted control of power;

Believing that the victory of the Democrats is a vindication of its sound economic policies, concrete platform of governance and clear political ideology;

Optimistic that the latest success of the Democrat Party is a foretelling of its victory in future elections and that, as in the past, it will be able to regain the confidence of the Thai people despite the populism and pragmatism of its rivals.

Be it therefore resolved that the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats congratulate Apirak Kosayodhin for his victory as Bangkok Governor and note the victory of the Democrat Party of Thailand as a triumph of liberal and democratic principles.
