CALD Statement No. 2 S. 2013

CALD Statement on the Role of Women in Politics

The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD):

Emphasizing the role of women in promoting democracy, human rights, justice and the rule of law; and

Recognizing that there is insufficient representation of women in leadership roles in politics and in political parties.

Hereby:

Urges political parties to engage in proactive measures to ensure parity in the participation and impact of women in political decision making within parties and in governments;

Encourages parties to ensure adequate attention to women’s needs, and in particular health care; and

Calls on political parties to pay special attention in their programmes to the Rights of Women and pursuance of the provisions of relevant international conventions.
