(June 19, 2006) Mr. Matt Sherwin who started his internship last October, 2005 will end next week his internship with the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD).
Mr. Sherwin, an honors graduate of Yale University in the U.S., started his internship with the Liberal International Women’s Workshop and CALD General Assembly in Taipei, Taiwan from October 12 to 15, 2005. He was also involved in the CALD International Conference in Public Accountability in Official Development Assistance (Siem Reap, Cambodia/ April 26 to 29, 2006) and the forthcoming joint meetings of CALD, Alliance for Liberals & Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and Liberal International (LI) in Manila and Tagaytay City, Philippines.
“Matt’s participation has been most invaluable. He is an observant and intelligent young man and despite his age, he has a very mature grasp of Asian social and political life,” Mr. John Coronel, CALD Executive Director, commented.
Aside from his CALD internship, Mr. Sherwin served as special consultant to Dr. Neric Acosta, MP, CALD and Liberal Party Secretary General.
From July 1, CALD will have for one month a youth leader from Cambodia, Mr. Winner Sovann, whose parents are both members of parliament from the Sam Rainsy Party. Mr. Sovann is a student at the Logos International School in Phnom Penh.
The CALD Executive Director also announced the hiring of Mr. Melvin Bautista, as intern from June to August, 2006. Mr. Bautista used to work for Greenpeace Southeast Asia and with Accenture, an IT business processing outsourcing company. He graduated with an AB International Studies degree from the University of the East in 2001.
