As always, there’s a special event to conclude any CALD activity. Former CALD chair, Hon. Franklin Drilon, graciously hosted the CALD delegation to a festive and meaningful farewell dinner in his home in Manila – also a venue to most Liberal Party (LP) caucuses and informal gatherings.
LP leaders and party officials were present to forge stronger ties and partnerships with sister-parties from South, East and Southeast Asia. Among those who attended the dinner were Ramon Magsaysay Awardees for government service Hon. Grace Padaca, governor or Isabela, and Hon. Jesse Robredo, mayor of Naga City. LP Members of Parliament included Hon. Jun Abaya, LP secretary general, Hon. Erin Tanada, Hon. Alfonso Umali, Hon. Niel Tupas Jr., and Hon. Proceso Alcala. Hon. Dine Abad, former MP and current chair of the CALD Women’s Caucus, Hon. Butch Abad, former MP and CALD chair, and Ms. Chit Asis, former LP director general, were also present.
Dr. Neric Acosta, CALD secretary general, thanked those who have contributed to the success of the recently concluded CALD Political Campaign Roundtable. Dr. Acosta, together with Hon. Boonyod Sooktinthai, MP, deputy speaker of the Royal Thai parliament, and Hon. Saumura Tioulong, member of parliament from Cambodia, presented tokens of appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Joe Hansen providing valuable input and insights on the Obama campaign, to Dr. Rainer Adam and Mr. Siegfried Herzog for the support given by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and to Hon. Franklin Drilon for hosting dinner for his greater liberal family in Asia.
