LP to observe the city elections in Taiwan

(December 5, 2006/ Taipei, Taiwan) A delegation from the Liberal Party of the Philippines arrives today in the Taiwanese capital to be part of an international mission to observe the 2006 Taipei and Kaohsiung City Elections, which will take place on December 9, 2006. The mission is organized and sponsored by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of Taiwan.

In a letter to Senator Franklin Drilon, Liberal Party (LP) President and Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) Chairman, DPP Director of International Affairs, Dr. Winston Dang, MP stated that “This election will elect mayors and city councilors for the two major cities of Taipei and Kahsiung. Since in May of next year, the Philippines will be holding general elections, we believe that young members of your party will greatly benefit from observing our city elections. We hope to exchange political campaign strategies and to offer an opportunity to observe our election activities in Taiwan.”

The program events include campaign observation tours to watch rallies, campaign activities and visit the campaign offices of running candidates. The delegates will return to Manila on December 10, 2006.

The members of the delegation are Ms. Catherin Caronilla de Mata, Political Officer of Hon. Dina Abad, MP, LP Vice President for Sectors and head of the CALD Women’s Caucus; Atty. Joel Nagtalon, Political Officer of Hon. Nereus Acosta, MP, LP and CALD Secretary General; Bukidnon councilor Atty. Evelio Julian Cordovez; Mr. Marcelo Decepida, Political Officer of Hon. Lorenzo Tanada III, MP; Mr. Amador Anrico Arao, Political Officer of Hon. Manuel Mamba, MP; Mr. Vicente Lucas, Director of the Local Headquarters of Governor Grace Padaca; and, Mr. Rolando A. de Guzman, Political Officer of Senator Rodolfo Biazon.

Other observers come from the Young Liberals of Austria, the Young Liberals of Canada, Bundesverband Liberaler Hochschulgruppen of Germany and the Young Democrats of America.
