Burmese exile ends European parliamentary internship program

(January 27, 2006/Brussels)  Ms. Naw K’nyaw Paw of the National Council of the Union or Burma (NCUB) finishes today her 17-day long internship program at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium and Strasbourg, France.

Ms. Naw is a ranking member of the Karen Women’s Organisation (KWO), which is based in Thailand. She is, among others, the Coordinator of Human Rights and Democracy Education project and the Karen State representative to the Ethnic Nationality Council. She did previous internship work with the Earth Rights International and Bank Information Center in Washington DC and the Alternative ASEAN in Bangkok. She has undergone various training courses in the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Australia, Switzerland, the United States and Thailand.

The internship program for CALD member parties is organized by the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE)  and the International Political Dialogue of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (IPD-FNF). It involves parliamentary work in the EP in Brussels, Belgium and Strasbourg, France and research and advocacy initiatives in select European non-government organizations.

With the commencement of the eighth CALD internship program, all CALD member parties have sent one intern to Brussels and Strasbourg.
