Burmese Trade Unionist and Freedom Advocate is CALD’s 8th Intern to Brussels

(May 22, 2005/Bangkok, Thailand) U Maung Maung, Secretary General of the National Council of the Union of Burma (NCUB), has announced the selection of Mr. Zaw Tun as the next CALD intern to the European Parliament.Mr. Zaw’s internship in Brussels, Belgium and Strasbourg, France will be from June 13 to July 8, 2005.

The internship program is sponsored by the Alliance of Liberal and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) with the assistance of the International Political Dialogue of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (IPD-FNF). Both ALDE and IPD-FNF are based in Brussels, Belgium. Mr. Zaw is the 8th CALD intern since the program started in June, 2003. So far, all CALD members have sent an intern each to this program.Mr. Zaw is currently the Director of the Finance and Development Department of the Federation of Trade Unions Burma (FTUB) based in Bangkok, Thailand. He served as Third Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma.

Mr. Zaw has a Bachelors of Business (Finance) degree from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.
