CALD and LP to host Liberal Parliamentarians during 112th IPU General Assembly

(March 7, 2004/ Manila, Philippines) The Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD) and the Liberal Party of the Philippines (LP) are hosting a dinner for all liberal and democratic parliamentarians attending the 112th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Manila on April 2, 2005 (Saturday). The 112th IPU General Assembly is chaired by the Hon. Franklin Drilon, President of the Philippine Senate. Senator Drilon is also the President of the Liberal Party and member of the CALD Executive Committee.

This occasion will serve as an opportunity for liberal members of parliament from all corners of the world to meet each other. The dinner is open to all liberal and democratic parliamentarians including, but not limited to, members of Liberal International (LI), Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD), European Liberal Democratic Reform Party Group (ELDR), Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), la Red Liberal de America Latina (RELIAL) and African Liberal Network.

Among the speakers in this high level meeting are Senate President Drilon, Education Secretary and former CALD Chair Florencio Abad, Senator Rodolfo Biazon (chairman of the committee tasked to organize this special event), Senator Manuel Roxas, and Deputy House Speaker Benigno Aquino III, MP who are all senior officials of the Liberal Party. Hon. Sam Rainsy, MP, leader of the opposition ofCambodia and former CALD Chair will give the response in behalf of CALD. Hon. Jose Atienza, Mayor of the City of Manila and Chair of the Liberal Party, will give the symbolic keys of the city to representatives from LI, CALD, ELDR, ALDE, RELIAL and the African Liberal Network.  Dr. Neric Acosta, MP, LP Executive Vice President and member of the CALD Executive Committee, will serve as master of ceremonies.
