CALD and RELIAL meet in Marrakech

(November 11, 2006/ Marrakech, Morocco) The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) hosted a luncheon meeting today between CALD and the Latin American liberal network, RELIAL, at the Ryad Mogador Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco.

The meeting is a follow-up of the previous workshop between CALD and RELIAL held during the Liberal International 53rd Congress in Sofia, Bulgaria on May, 2005. Both RELIAL and CALD participated in the recent Networking for Freedom Workshop sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and held concurrently during the 54th LI Congress in Marrakech.

CALD was represented by Secretary General Neric Acosta, MP; former CALD Chairman Sam Rainsy, MP; former Secretary General Bi-Khim Hsiao, MP; Malaysian Senator S. Vijayaratnam; Dr. Martin Lee of Hong Kong and other members of the CALD Executive Committee.

RELIAL was represented by its President, Mr. Otto Guevarra Guth who heads Costa Rica’s Movimiento Libertario. The other members of the delegation were  Mr. Jorge Briz, former Foreign Minister of Guatemala; Argentina’s  Ricardo Lopez Murphy, President of  Recrear Party; Brasil’s Oscar Lehenbauer, Chief of Cabinet of Liberal Front Party (PFL);  and Costa Rica’s Evita Arguedas, MP, Movimiento Libertario and Vice-President of the Parliament.
