CALD hosts reception for NDI Asia Director

(July 5, 2007/ Manila) The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) hosted a luncheon meeting in honor of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) senior associate and regional director for Asia programs, Mr. Peter Manikas, and program officer for Asia, Ms. Brooke Okland. Also present are representatives from NDI Philippines, Mr. Mark Wallem, senior resident director and Ms. Nelia Agbon, senior resident country director for Mindanao programs.

CALD secretary general Neric Acosta, MP; CALD executive director John Coronel; CALD program officers Paolo Zamora and Carlo Religioso and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) communications officer Alexandra Cuyegkeng attended the meeting.

NDI, a nonprofit organization working to strengthen and expand democracy worldwide, is a partner of CALD. NDI and CALD have worked on political party reform workshops such as the Political Party Strategies to Combat Corruption in 2002 and Political Party Reform Workshop II in 2003, both held Bangkok, Thailand. In 2004, CALD and NDI organized teams of party representatives to conduct pre-election missions in Taiwan, South Korea, Philippines and Indonesia to meet party leaders, candidates, NGOs and media organizations, and election officials.
