CALD Resolution celebrating the International Women’s Day, expressing support for the empowerment of women engaged in various sectors of the society, and reaffirming the mandate of the CALD Women’s Caucus

Noting that March 8 is the International Women’s Day and that various organizations from across the globe take part and recognize the thousands of initiatives and events that are held on this day to inspire women and celebrate achievements;

Recognizing that organisations, governments and women’s groups around the world choose different themes each year that reflect global and local gender issues;

Appreciating that the CALD Women’s Caucus carries the global initiative of women empowerment through its advocacy of advancing women in politics through political party and capacity building;

Aware that there are further crucial steps necessary to fully open and strengthen more avenues for women in CALD parties to assume greater leadership roles;

Noting that CALD passed a resolution expressing its commitment to the “Win with Women” Global Action Plan and to the implementation of this plan’s four-point agenda:

1.    Removing restrictions on women’s political participation, including restrictions on women’s suffrage and candidacy

2.    Increasing the number of women elected officials at the national, provincial and local level

3.    Ensuring that political parties include women in meaningful leadership positions and in meaningful numbers

4.    Encouraging greater participation of women in government decision-making and advocating for legislation that enshrines full equality of men and women;

Believing that the CALD Women’s Caucus will be able to facilitate the active participation of women in CALD member parties and set agenda defining appropriate actions and policy initiatives;

The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats hereby celebrates the International Women’s Day, expresses support for the empowerment of women engaged in various sectors of the society, and reaffirms the mandate of the CALD Women’s Caucus.
