CALD Program Officers to attend conferences in Spain, Indonesia and the Netherlands

(April 29, 2005) The Barcelona-based Federacion Catalana de Asociaciones y Clubes UNESCO, the Manila-based Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA)  and the Paris-based Development Policy Dialogue of the Vice Presidency for Europe of the World Bank have invited CALD Program Officers Paolo Zamora, Andrea Yang and Brian Gonzales, respectively, to three international conferences in Spain, Indonesia and the Netherlands.Mr. Zamora will be a delegate to the 2nd International Forum of the Youth Network for Peace Building from May 1-8 in the Catalan cities of Manresa and Barcelona, Spain. This event is sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Government of Spain. Expected to attend are 50 youth leaders worldwide.

Ms. Yang will be a delegate to the Running Successful Political Campaigns Workshop on May 11-16, 2005 in the Javanese City of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.  PKB-Youth, the youth wing of Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (National Awakening Party) and an YLDA member organization, is hosting the workshop in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF). The workshop is being organized to enable participants to understand the basic rules and elements of successful political campaigns in diverse political and cultural settings and, connected with this, appreciate the need for strategic thinking in developing campaigns.

Mr. Gonzales will serve as a delegate and rapporteur of the 7th Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE) from May 22-25 at the Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The ABCDE brings together academics, policy makers and representatives from civil society and the private sector. It is organized by the World Bank and the co-sponsors for this year are the Ministry of Development Cooperation and the Ministry of Finance of the Netherlands. In a related development, the Paris-based World Bank Academic Network selected early this month Mr. Gonzales as its Grantee.
