CALD Resolution No. 2 S. 2004

A resolution recognizing the contributions of the Democrat Party of Thailand (DP) in the establishment and progress of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD); acknowledging the dynamic leadership of DP as CALD Founding Chair Party from 1993 to 1995 and as Chair Party from 2002 to 2004; and, congratulating outgoing chairperson M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, MP for his inspired leadership, vision and commitment to the further growth of the organization and the advocacy of democracy in the region

Noting that the Democrat Party of Thailand (DP) was one of the founding parties of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and served as the first Party Chair with then Foreign Minister, H.E. Surin Pitsuwan, serving as CALD’s first chairperson;

Aware that CALD was founded on December 10, 1993 in Bangkok during the inaugural general assembly hosted by DP and opened by then Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai;

Recognizing that the Democrat Party was again elected as party chair in 2002, the first member party to have served as chair party for more than one term;

Noting that the Democrat Party’s leadership in CALD during its two terms was characterized by increased dynamism, further consolidation among its members and improved cooperation amongst like-minded institutions and individuals;

Emphasizing the DP’s leadership in CALD is reflective of the party’s clarity of vision, and steadfast commitment to the values of liberalism and democracy.

Now therefore be it resolved as it is hereby resolved that the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats recognize the contributions of the Democrat Party of Thailand in the establishment and progress of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats; acknowledge the dynamic leadership of DP as CALD Founding Chair Party from 1993 to 1995 and as Chair Party from 2002 to 2004; and, congratulate outgoing chairperson M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, MP for his inspired leadership, vision and commitment to the further growth of the organization and the advocacy of democracy in the region.
