CALD Resolution No. 2 S. 2010

CALD resolution congratulating CALD Chair Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha for winning a seat in the 7th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka; recognizing his capability to carry out the functions of this office with the highest degree of excellence, dedication and genuine concern for the public good; and wishing him success in his new post as a Member of Parliament.

Noting that the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka recently held its general elections last April 8, 2010, a historic milestone as it was the first national polls since the defeat of the Tamil tigers;

Aware that CALD Chair and former President of the Liberal Party of Sri Lanka, Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha, was chosen by the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), as one of its twenty-nine National List nominees for the abovementioned elections;

Grateful that Dr. Wijesinha is one of the seventeen UPFA nominees who secured a seat in the Sri Lankan Parliament, based on the number of votes obtained by the ruling party;

Recognizing that Dr. Wijesinha has the necessary academic and professional qualifications to carry out the functions of this office with the highest degree of excellence, dedication and genuine concern for the public good;

Believing that Dr. Wijesinha will continue to advocate liberal democratic principles and practices as a legislator and will remain committed to the protection of democracy in Sri Lanka and in the region;

The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) hereby congratulates Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha for winning a seat in the 7th Sri Lankan Parliament, recognizes his capability to carry out the functions of this office with the highest degree of excellence, dedication and genuine concern for the public good; and wishes him success in his new post as a Member of Parliament.
