Dr. Neric Acosta, secretary general of CALD, and Mr. Hubertus von Welck, regional director for South Africa of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), met in Cape Town, South Africa last July 5, 2010 in a casual and informal exchange of updates from Asia and Africa. Mr. von Welck previously served as FNF Regional Director for East and Southeast Asia and had closely worked with Dr. Acosta on various CALD projects and initiatives that promoted the ideals of liberalism and democracy in the region.

Dr. Acosta updated Mr. von Welck on the political developments happening among CALD member-parties, as well as on the upcoming CALD projects for the second half of the year. Dr. Acosta also shared his campaign experience in the last May 2010 Philippine elections where he ran for senator with Liberal Party presidential candidate and now President of the Republic, H.E. Noynoy Aquino.

Mr. von Welck informed Dr. Acosta about liberal developments in the African region and shared the experience and progress of the African Liberal Networks (ALN), an organization of 24 parties from 19 African countries that aims to promote liberal democratic objectives and principles throughout the African continent. He also notified Dr. Acosta of the next Liberal International (LI) Executive Committee meeting to be held in Cape Town on November 12-14, 2010.

Both CALD and ALN are partners of LI as cooperating organizations and have actively participated in regional liberal network meetings during LI Congresses.
