DP Thailand official receives CALD Secretariat

(February 12, 2007/ Bangkok) Mr. Isra Sunthornvut, Director for International Affairs of the Democrat Party of Thailand, spokesperson of the Bangkok governor and former Member of Parliament, had a meeting today with CALD Executive Director John Coronel and Program Officers Carlo Religioso and Paolo Zamora at the Conrad Hotel in the Thai capital.

Also joining the meeting was Mr. Jirayu Tulyanond. Mr. Tulyanond was a participant of the recently concluded 1st CALD Political Party Management Workshop in Jakarta representing the Democrat Party.

Mr. Sunthornvut briefed the CALD Secretariat on the current political situation in Thailand and how it affects the Democrat Party. Mr. Coronel also briefed the Democrat Party Director for International Affairs on future activities of CALD.

Mr. Tulayanond hosted an informal lunch for the CALD Secretariat after the meeting.

The CALD Secretariat also visited the Bangkok-based Regional Office for East and Southeast Asia of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. Messrs. Coronel, Religioso and Zamora met with Mr. Wilfried Hermann, Project Manager for Thailand, Cambodia and Burma; Dr. Busarin Dusadeeisariyawong of the Malaysia Project; and Mr. Bjoern Wyrembek of the Finance and Administration Department and Ms. Krittiya Sintupongphan, Regional Programme Assistant.

One of the purposed of the CALD visit is to introduce the new program officer, Mr. Religioso, to the Democrat Party and FNF Regional Office.

The members of the CALD Secretariat also had the opportunity to meet with immediate past CALD Program Officer, Mr. Brian Gonzales, who now works with the Bangkok-based regional office of the IUCN – The World Conservation Union.
