LI and FNF hail success of CALD’s Siem Reap Conference on ODA

(April 29, 2006/Siem Reap) The Lord Alderdice, President of Liberal International, and Mr. Manfried Reichter, Treasurer and Trustee of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation,  hailed  today the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) of Cambodia for the very successful CALD International Conference on Public Accountability in Official Development Assistance.

Speaking during the Closing Ceremonies at the Sokha Hotel, the Lord Alderdice commented that CALD had served as a model for regional cooperation. He cited the LI meeting in Sofia Bulgaria last November wherein CALD officials shared best practices with the newly formed RELIAL, the regional grouping of Latin American liberals. Mr. Richter echoed the opinion of Lord Alderdice and other participants regarding the substantial inputs of the conference and the highly professional manner by which the conference was organized. He mentioned that CALD has set the benchmark of FNF supported projects worldwide.

The role of Sam Rainsy and his party was cited by CALD Secretary General Nereus Acosta, MP. SRP served as host party and fielded several volunteers from its Siem Reap Chapter to help run the conference.
