President Wahid receives CALD Execom and delegates at his home, CALD Execom visits PKB Headquarters

(February 7, 2007/ Jakarta) H.E. Abdurrahman Wahid, former President of Indonesia and chairman of the Nation Awakening party (PKB), received yesterday the members of the Executive Committee of the Council of Asian Liberals & Democrats (CALD) and participants to the 1st CALD Political Party Management Workshop at his home in the Indonesian capital.

The dinner reception was attended by the top officials of PKB, CALD and FNF.

Leading the CALD delegation was Dr. J.R. Nereus Acosta, MP, CALD Secretary General.  The members of the CALD Executive Committee included former CALD Chairman and Philippine Education Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad; former CALD Secretary General and Democrat Party (Thailand) Spokesman Ong Ard Klampaiboon;  Madam Saumura Tioulong, MP, of the Sam Rainsy Party of Cambodia; CALD Women’s Caucus Chair and LP ice President Rep. Dina Abad;  Mr. Lee Kah Choon, Deputy Secretary General of the Malaysian People’s Movement Party (Gerakan); Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha, President of the Liberal Party of Sri Lanka; Ms. Chee Siok Chin of the Singapore Democratic Party; Mr. David Taw of the National Council of the Union of Burma; Ms. Amy Hsiao and Ms. Pingya Hsu of the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan;  and, Dr. Asif Khan of the Liberal Forum Pakistan.

President Wahid was joined by his wife, former First Lady Shinta Nuriya Wahid and daughter Yenni Zarnubah Wahid.

Most of the senior officials of PKB attended including Minister Muhaimin Iskandar, General Chairman of the National Board, Mr.  Lukman Edy, M.Si, Secretary General; Moh. Hanif Dhakiri,  Deputy Secretary General; Mr. Eman Hermawan, Deputy Secretary General; Mrs. Ida Fauziyah, Chair of Parliamentary Faction; and, Rieke Dyah Pitaloka, Deputy Secretary General and  Bahruddin Nashori, Treasurer. Deputy Chairmen Hermawi F. Taslim  and Andy Muawiyah Ramli  and members of the advisory board TGK. Ali Hanafiyah and Ahmad Rawi were also in attendance.

Members of Parliament who attended include Mrs. Badriyah Fayumi, Mrs. Saidah Sakwan, Lalu Misbah Hidayat, Marwan Jakfar, Arifin Junaedi, Aris Junaedi, Mrs. Anisah Mahfudz, M. Khaidir Wafa,  A. Syafrin Romas, Mufid Busyairi, Mrs. Nursyahbani Katjasungkana , Prof. Cecep Syarifuddin, Bisri Romly, Mrs. Anna Mu’awanah, Abdullah Azwar Anas, Taufikurrahman Saleh, Saifullah Makshum, Ali Mubarok, Imam Nahrawi, Masduki Baidlowi, Suhendy Karyawan, Hamdun  and Ishartanto.

Attending from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) were Mr. Hubertus von Welck, Regional Director for East and Southeast Asia; Dr. Rainer Adam, Resident Representative (Jakarta) and Mr. Siegfried Herzog, Resident Representative (Manila).

The following day, the CALD Executive Committee and participants of the 1st CALD Political Party Management Workshop visited the PKB headquarters in Jakarta which was graced by the presence of President Wahid and top officials of PKB.
