The Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) mourns the passing of Philippine Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Jose Luis Martin “Chito” Gascon – a staunch defender of human rights and liberal values in his home country and abroad.
Chito served the global liberal family in various capacities as member of the Liberal International Human Rights Committee (LI HRC), bureau member of the IFLRY – International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY), and member of the CALD Executive Committee.
As regular speaker and participant in CALD events, Chito never ceased to inspire with his eloquent exposition, in-depth analysis and sincere friendship. His untimely demise leaves a huge void in the hearts of liberals and democrats all over the world who will always fondly remember his passion, courage and optimism.
