CALD began the year by organizing a meeting to come up with a consolidated Asian liberal position as its input for the Liberal Manifesto 2017, a key document that would reflect the global state of liberalism in the 21st century.

As CALD’s first leadership academy for Asia’s youth, the event focused on the theme ” The 3Is of Leadership: Imagine, Inspire, Innovate”, with the aim of training CALD Youth members on the essential elements of leadership, particularly strategic visioning, effective communication, and innovative and change management.
- CALD in 61st LI Congress: Liberals Adopt Global Manifesto

While CALD joined other liberals from all over the globe to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberal International (LI) in Andorra, it also organized sideline events such as a TED-style talk on “Liberalism in the Time of Post-truth Politics” and sessions on “How to Make Liberals Win Again” and “How to be Popular without being Populist”.
- 9th CALD Communications Workshop & Commune Election Observation Mission
1-5 June 2017 | Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The 9th installment of the CALD communications series, the workshop focused on the theme “Dealing with the Media: Common Rules, Different Contexts”. It aimed to train participants on the fundamental rules of handling the media that would be applicable across all contexts, as well as to discuss on the increasing use of deception in social media and how this can be detected and addresses.
- CALD Women’s Caucus Conference & Workshop

With the theme “Women Empowering Women: Experiences Across Asia,” the event highlighted the achievements of women in various fields – politics, economics, media, civil society, and business. This gathering of Asian women leaders served as a forum to discuss the pertinent issues and problems confronting women in the 21st century.
- CALD Assessment Meeting, Climate Change Workshop & Executive Committee Meeting
3-6 November 2017 | Bangkok, Thailand
This three-event gathering had participants first tackling climate finance via a workshop before moving to executive matters and then further on to discussing the strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities and constraints of CALD as a network of liberal and democratic parties in Asia. With the theme “CALD@25: Taking Stock, Setting Directions”, Council members assessed the Council’s current standing and its future directions in order for the organizations to remain true to its commitment of advancing a society based on personal liberty and responsibility, social justice, the rule of law, and free-market economy.
